Well it's finally here. The 2018 Midterm election. Will there be a blue wave as voters send Trump a message? Or will the GOP machine move forward? Discuss any predictions/ results here and please go to the poll here, especially if you didn't vote back home. And to those of you not from the US, the poll welcomes your participation as well!

Prediction: The Democrats take the House by about 10 seats and the Republicans pick up a few Senate seats to have it something like 53-47 in the Senate.

Also, bonus question- Did you vote in 2018? Be honest.

I didn't vote. I trust my state to do the right thing (and I'm lazy).

It's stressful waiting for all of it to happen. You never know how it's going to go. Fingers crossed it turns out the way I want!

I posit that the Democratic performance will a bit stronger than some recent predictions suggest, though admittedly that is based entirely on the opposite phenomenon occurring in 2016.

I did a straight-ticket party vote on the Texas ballot, something I strongly oppose in principle and which will thankfully be phased out by the next election. It's one of the electoral tricks that the Republicans have used to keep a stranglehold on the state, ensuring that lots of unqualified yahoos in down-ballot races get many more votes than they deserve. It's a terrible mechanism but, in its final iteration, an ironic and potentially useful one for sending a middle finger to the Republican Party of Texas.

I voted by absentee ballot a few weeks ago. My state has one senate position up for grabs that I don't see moving from the Democrat incumbent. My house representative is currently a (rare) moderate Republican that didn't receive the local Republican party's support last election, and maybe this one too, because she wasn't conservative enough. The Democrat she is running against is pretty tough competition though as she seems to be a moderate Democrat. Given the mixed nature of my congressional district (some rural, suburban, and urban) the election is a toss up.

In the primary the gap between the winning Democrat and Republican candidates was very close. And several thousand more Democrats than Republicans voted in the primary. It should be a good race, I think.

I predict that the Republicans keep the house barely and increase their majority in the Senate.

I also predict a lot of screaming at the sky and tear streaked cheeks.

After a disappointing 2016, I won't believe the polls until the votes are counted.

But it's looking good for the Dems to retake the House. Trumpism doesn't work everywhere.

The Senate looked to be more leaning Republican by the Kavanaugh bounce but now seems to be quite close on a couple of states.

I'm surprised at the number of people so far where most of their American friends have voted.

Most of my friends who are also from USA break down into this-
A) Didn't vote and have a partisan leaning. A couple claimed to have voted and under slight prodding it was rather obvious they hand't. (Hint- ask them how they voted on ballot proposals and if they can't name them, they didn't vote)
B) There's an election? I don't care about politics. This is most of them.
C) Hell yeah I'm voting for Proposal 1- Legal weed!!!!
D) They actually are voting.

Sadly I figure the republicans will maintain control of both the house of Reps and the Senate. I had hoped the Democrats could gain control of the house but I suspect Gerrymandering by incumbent Republicans with suppress the popular will.

It feels like more  people are voting this cycle in general, which usually bodes well for the Democrats. Republicans keep the senate imo, but Dems might clean up on the House.

Low voter turnout has always been the Democrats problem. I'm watching the results at work today. At least we got to sleep through all of the voting so the wait is shorter.

Looking like a 2016 repeat. America ruled by angry white folk.

This may come down to California, which could mean a couple months of litigation before we get a final result.

I think we can all agree that is a big "booo".

I'm prepared for the Republicans to keep the Senate, but if O'Rourke beats Cruz, that's a more than sufficient consolation prize.

Dreading the thought of a Florida recount, to say nothing of the mess in Georgia...

Braun wins Indiana. Scott looks like he might hold on in Florida. Republicans looking good for the senate majority.

FOXNews projects Dems take the House. Republicans look solid to hold on to the Senate.

Congratulations!
