The South African Constitutional Court recently legalized the use of marijuana for personal use. While drug smuggling is nothing new but it means now South Africans  or people traveling from South Africa to Korea will be extra scrutinized when entering Korea.

How did they get that USD value?

I've never touched the stuff, but that seams high. (No pun intended.)

Marijuana: healthier than alcohol. Healthier than cigarettes.

How do you manage to smuggle 18 kilos onto an airplane? That's rather ballsy. That's 18 bricks in a suitcase which presumably gets x-rayed before going on the plane. And the smell...

Wouldnt the better plan be to just swallow a few condoms of seeds and start a grow-op? Its not like Korea has anywhere near the focus on drug ops. Back home your electruc and water bill spiking would get attention from the authorities. Here, it's just assumed you turned on the A/C and did whatever.

F***ing idiot. Dragging our (South Africans) reputation through the dirt.

She's lucky this isn't Vietnam.

If it had been a white male then there would've been a new national media campaign against drug-dealing foreign teachers.

But it was a woman...  so its OK.
Catch my drift?

It's way high. California prices range from $10 for mid quality to $40 for high quality / gram.

So 18kg would set you back $180,000~ $720,000

Similar to the markup on watermelons, apples, etc., the price in Korea is four times as high. Maybe because the supply is so low?

I guess there there are two sides to every coin.  I can't get baked, but
I don't have to worry about my kids doing drugs.  I also don't have to
worry about them getting addicted and and turning to criminal behavior
to support the habit.  Maybe Korea is so safe because it is not awash
with meth heads toting Glocks.

Moreover, Korea sucks for drugs, but it is great for cigars.  Customs
don't give a damn about mail order cigars.  I regularly get $200 boxes
of cigars that would cost over a $1000 in Canada.
