Weolse "top up"?
« on: May 31, 2018, 09:12:10 AM »
Hi everyone,

I just wondered if anyone has experience with this...

I have my own housing and a one year weolse contract.  If I stay for a second year in the same apartment, is it possible to add money to the existing weolse to lower the monthly rent for the next year?

Thanks!

Anything can be negotiated with the owner if the contract hasn't been renewed yet.

It's possible, but unlikely. Most landlords prefer higher weolse, as interest rates are super low and having that monthly income is more appealing than a slightly larger deposit.

It depends on your landlord and the area you stay in, but yes, I do this and so do many Koreans. I've been increasing my deposit every year to the point that I no longer have to pay rent.
