looking for monitors in korea
« on: April 17, 2018, 12:14:23 AM »
I'm disassembling my pc into components for the trip, so I'll just need a new tower and monitors.

I'm hearing mixed messages about Korean monitors. Any opinions on them? price point? The best place to get them?

Prices on electronics are high here due to a 8% tariff.  Local brands raise prices as a result.

Most locals go look at Samsung or LG showroom stores, then buy on-line.

I got a nice LG monitor at eMart for 25% lower than the LG showroom. Shop around.

I got a Dell monitor for pretty much the same price as it was on Amazon, plus 10% off from a Gmarket coupon.

Like waygook.org user JNM said, shop around. Monitors here are plentiful and good quality, and not as price-inflated as a lot of other consumer goods.

Buy an A- screen. They're slightly imperfect panels from LG or Samsung that are assembled into monitors by smaller companies.

The quality can vary. Some companies use cheap hardware to process the image sent to the screen, which can cause lag that makes gaming very difficult. I personally recommend Monex, who sell cheap panels without noticeable lag. They're available on GMarket.

If you get to Korea before May 2 and happen to be near Busan, I will be selling my 24" 4-month-old LG monitor for a good price.

danawa.com is a good website to check out prices and what's available (http://prod.danawa.com/list/?cate=112757&15main_11_02).

google translate works well on the site too, if you have difficulties reading Korean.
