It's garbage. You get told you need to do activities! activities! activities! (which they mostly refuse to do properly or at all and of course there's rarely any support from the co-t)

I really wonder if this is allowed to happen in classrooms in other countries. where students are just allowed to 'opt out' of the work and activities.

if a student refused to do something in class when i was at school back home they'd get hauled in front of the teacher after class and given a stern talking to, told to adjust their attitude etc.
Ugggggggh, I hate this so much. I get told no so many times but literally nothing happens to them.
I told my 6s about how we have detention and suspension and expelling in Canada and they're like "a school can really say you can't come back?" I'm like "yeah! If you're being really bad they can tell you to get out and you have to go to a new school! remember when that kid scratched up your homeroom teacher's arms? totally wouldda been expelled! when you made a fake butterfly knife out of popcicle sticks and cut a piece of that girl's hair off with it? at least detention for that!" they'd die if they had actual school rules.
The only time my school (here) has suspended a kid was because he was calling another kid some seriously racist bad names and started a really bad fist fight. And even then I'm pretty sure the only reason he was suspended was because I caught them and broke up the fight and reported them, while covered in their blood.

I have learned my lesson of getting in-between students, ESPECIALLY when they are out of the classroom.

You can be thrown under the bus for this so hard, because it makes you AT THE SCENE OF RESPONSIBILITY, even though you were trying to stop it.

NET's are nothing but scapegoats for a shitty public education attitude and inept teachers in Korea...

I mean, there are 4 English "teachers" at my school... in the yearbook, they are all under English, and are "English Teachers"... I am in the back somewhere on a page with Wonomin "the schools random foreigner." smh

Yeah one of the homeroom teachers got scratched up by a kid real bad. bleeding, she still has scars and the school did nothing about it. He did it to another student too but he got the student's face and this was like a month later because the scratching kid wouldn't let the other kid watch porn on his phone when they were at an overnight camp. both kids showed up to school the next day mad at each other and that's it. nothing happened to either kid.

It really sucks when a school doesn't have your back.

Thankfully, that's not a problem for me.
Being middle school boys, my kids occasionally fight, forcing me to frogmarch the little blighters to the office (after a very thorough and very enjoyable scolding). Usually, whoever is at the office will take one look at the kids I'm towing in, and rip into them. On several occasions, only after the drama, tempers, and screams have died down a bit would I be asked what the problem actually was.
I'm always tempted to say something like "Oh, they just wanted help with a translation."

Kissing? In the classroom?
Yep. I have caught two separate couples kissing in class. I have classes of 40ish students with no assistance, so in some of them... its kind of a shit show.

I've seen it in a few of my classes, at least it looks a lot like it, at my travel middle school. The classes are separated into boys / girls by grade, and in my grade 1 boys class, these 2 boys have, a few times, looked like they were kissing each other.
The few times this has happened, was when the coT walked out of the room and left me with them, then the students, not wanting to do anything, just started messing around like that.

There are two boys in one of my classes who like to kiss. One time I caught them doing this weird spider man kiss where one leaned backwards so his "friend" could kiss him

I kind of want them to be an actual couple lol

My school went around printing out stickers for every single door in the school, all the classrooms, the offices, everywhere, that told them to shut the door. Yet still, not a single one does it until I yell at them. Which means I tell them multiple times a class.

classes done for today, re-writing this morning's rant:

So, I have this nice jacket that my friend gave me. It looks really nice on me (actually he said "it makes me look like an anime character" but I take that as a compliment). I decided to wear it today with another jacket to see if it would be warmer than my ninja getup. I always get confused comments on this coat from Koreans though because it's second-hand from one of the shipyards, and still has the tags of the name of the shipyard and the original employee's name. They have no conception of second-hand clothing and it's always a bit annoying, but the original tags add character so I don't want to take them off.

Less than ten minutes after I walk in the door, jerk boss starts hassling me about my jacket. I explain that it's second-hand, and what that means, but she won't quit.

:undecided: : you should take the tags off that jacket
  : I don't want to
:undecided: : but you aren't 김현주. you don't work at a shipyard
  : it adds character
:undecided: : it's strange. take them off
 : I know it's strange to Koreans, but in America many people have clothing like this, so I'm leaving it
:undecided: : no, you should take them off
 : (turns my chair away from her)

SURPRISINGLY this tactic worked. She stood there awkwardly for a minute and then went back to her seat, instead of yelling at me for "ignoring my elder"

Yeah, I could see that short circuiting a few people here. I had an old work shirt from when I was a teenager in the late 1990s and I was going through my old clothes and came across it. My wife couldn't understnad why anyone would ever wear
a)something that is second hand
b)something showing the name of the previous owner

I was teaching past tense to my grade 4s today.

Me: washed

Kids: Wash-ed

Me: No, repeat after me 'Washed' with a clap for the single syllable.

CT: Yes everyone, wash-eD. (Strong emphasis on the D sound while not removing the extra vowel).

Kids: wash-eD.

Me: Yup, great job let's move on.

Oh yeah, I was talking about the adults

I can't get my head around why a grown adult would leave a door open.  It blows my mind.  All of the good work done by the heating gets undone in thirty seconds so we have to start from scratch.
