Actually i'm looking forward to deskwarming so i can work on some personal projects and maybe do some reading. Of course more vacation time would be preferable but I'm just ready for any kind of break

Desk warming for me is an awesome time but I get to stay in my office totally alone in an empty school. I wander down for lunch with the P and VP and whichever teacher is in the main office that day.

I'll plan and make the last of my materials and organize a nice little supply drop for the new guy coming in next year and then get to just chill.

I couldn't imagine complaining about it. (Also my steam folder is on an external hd, that helps for that bit of time at the end.)

Man I am about ready to give up on this hospital business.

I finally got my MRI yesterday, nothing was amiss. After discussing the results with me the neurologist just went on again like "hmmmmm I don't know" and then told me I should go to a university hospital.

It's really hard to focus when you constantly feel like your head is spinning and like you're going to vomit. But I don't have that much work to do anymore, and the semester is almost over. Even if I feel sick I can just lump around or take a nap without worrying. But they told me this all needs to get done within a week. So....?????

Have you gone to see a dentist? I spent a year in agony going from doctor to doctor, to specialist to specialist and getting scan after scan done. Each referral took me closer and closer to Seoul and to bigger and bigger hospitals. The university hospital I went to put me on epilepsy medicine with the diagnosis being possible TM Neuralgia because nothing else came close to matching. That medicine was something else and then some. I decided I wanted my mommy before I stabbed myself in the head to stop the pain and flew home. Went to the dentist while I was there and found out I needed a root canal and had 7 additional holes.

Hmm that's possible. I'm a little worried about going to the dentist in Korea bc I've heard some horror stories about unanesthetized surgeries, but I'm due for a cleaning and it's cheaper than back home...

@kimchimandu - thanks, I'll try calling them

It is DEFINITELY not the same quality you'll be used to.  They don't even use floss.

Ah damn what's the point then? haha

Am I the only one still teaching classes all through the end of this month??
Nope! What a pointless week. Almost as pointless as that week between winter and spring break.

I'm still doing proper classes and lessons from the book and end of lesson tests

I'm doing a christmas quiz game and that last one standing game from the lesson plans on here

I'm already bored of it but hey at least it's (somewhat) lower stress

Now for a rant:

People keep moving my ****** shoes/slippers

I'd been using the same shoe cubby for over 6 months, when one day I came to school, and my shoes were gone. Whatever. They were cheapy inside slippers I had bought from a subway store for the summer. I brought my cold weather slippers back. All was peaceful... for a time

One day I go to put on my shoes at the end of the day and someone just straight up PUT THEIR SHOES ON TOP OF MINE. TF? There are plenty of cubbies. This is unecessary. When I put on my shoes I find a different cubby to put my slippers in.

One day I can't find my shoes when I go to put them on after work. I find them in a completely different shoe cubby cabinet. WHY?

My shoes were moved within the same cabinet again recently but it's been a bit since anyone's moved them. Still. Why.

Exactly. Deskwarming is a great time to work on some projects or things you otherwise wouldn't normally have time to do. And obviously it would be nice just to get full vacation, but deskwarming is still a treat.

Also, you're completely free of responsibilities when you're deskwarming. If I'm off work and I'm at home, there are a million chores and errands on my list of things I need to get done, but if I'm deskwarming, I don't have to worry about all that, so I can just do something I want to do.
Are you joking? I can't tell. I wish they would give us the option to take unpaid leave if they want to deskwarm.

Yeah, EVERYONE else is working their office jobs and you get to chill and do whatever you want and get paid. Would I RATHER be doing something else?  Of course. I'd rather be a movie star, too. Take what you can get.

Exactly. I'm not sure why people get so bent out of shape at the prospect of deskwarming. You're paid to go to work. You are contractually obligated to be there. I understand some people hate it but there are far worse things you could be doing.

Have you asked your school? Some might be lenient and allow you to take unpaid time off. Mine let me do so last summer so I could take a longer vacation to visit home.

I think all schools should offer the option though. They'll only be saving money.

Used to have the same issue with a colleague at a former school.

It was very odd.

We would have meetings once a week after school, just before the end of the day, so I hovered to see who was doing it and then had my coteacher help me to address the issue.

A couple of weeks later, we all had name tags on each cabinet, so everyone had a designated box.

It wasn't long after that, someone up and took my inside shoes!!!  Size 300 from the US :(

I also don't mind deskwarming.

Apart from travelling, there aren't many things that I can't do during deskwarming time that I can do at home.  Plus, if I wasn't at school I'd be spending money through boredom anyway.

It also feels really nice to relax in a quiet office for once.

Yeah, same. If I stayed home, I would most likely sleep in, probably skip lunch, finally get up at around noon or 1pm, brush my teeth, wash my face, attempt to be useful, before giving in to the power of Youtube while in bed. If I do happen to get up somewhat early enough and go out, I end up spending money on food, coffee, more coffee, transportation, and sometimes on some impulse purchases, which may or may not include coffee. When I'm at school with nothing to do, I at least read a few chapters from whatever book I happen to be reading.

Obviously (and I don't think anyone denies this), more vacation time is ideal, and in all honestly I would rather just waste my time and money at home or in a coffeeshop, but at this point, I would also rather take hours upon hours of deskwarming than another hellish hour of class.

Agreed. I personally wouldn't take unpaid vacation, but I do think the option should be there. There's no reason for anyone to be denied unpaid vacation if there are no classes going on and there are no other obligations at the time of the requested days off. If someone is demanding paid time off in addition to their allotted vacation days, then I can see a problem arising, but unpaid shouldn't even be an issue.

I'll usually grumble a bit about deskwarming, but only because I like to grumble . It isn't that bad. I'd just be farting around on the internet all day if I were at home, so the only real difference is I'll have to wear a shirt while I do it in the office. Doesn't hurt that my work computer is my personal gaming laptop.  :afro:

I am a tad bitter about having to do it this winter, but only because this past summer break and winter break last year I didn't have to at this school. Apparently my POE's been sending messages out to schools stressing that NETs have to come to work when we aren't officially on vacation.

If I hadn't had two consecutive deskwarming-free breaks, then having to do it this time around probably wouldn't really bother me. I had to for every other break prior to those two, after all, and this is my fifth year here.

Some people just have really nice set-ups at work. I'm in the same office as my VP, so deskwarming is a whole lot of awkward. I have to constantly be "on," if that makes any sense. Over summer vacation, it took me a whole ten minutes to clean up after camp and she was calling me to make sure I hadn't left. I mean... there's just no privacy.

One other teacher comes each day, and he/she always takes the desk right next to mine. I have to eat whatever they order for lunch even if I don't like it. I understand that a lot of people don't mind deskwarming, and I DO realize it's in the contract. I'm posting a vent about how annoying it is to me personally.... But I recognize that my school situation is vastly different from most other teachers.

If I had my own cozy little office (or even if I could stay in the English classroom after camp), I think I'd love deskwarming.

in Gangwon-do you are actually allowed to take unpaid leave. BUT your school has to agree to it. they can still say no. and it can end up costing you big time. if you are on, say, standard 2.2 mil a month, taking just one full week off costs you 550,000 Won. is it really worth it?

Good point from waywardtimelord ^

I only like deskwarming if I'm alone in the office.  I can't relax if there's another teacher sitting next to me/behind me or whatever.

Yeah this is where I try to draw the line. Contractually I have to be at school. Fine. But it is utterly ridiculous to dictate where I should be just so I can be monitored. No thanks, not happening.
