Tried having a fun music lesson comparing different styles from the U.S, Korea, and Mexico (I'm Mexican so i try to incorporate it as a way to teach them a little extra besides just American culture). Anyway, I got a section where I compared different traditional styles and tried to explain how European influences shaped some Mexican music. They weren't getting it so I tried to compare it to how Japan took over Korea and my Co-Teacher just lost it. I mean I get the nationalism and all that but I was just making an example. NEVER reference anything from Korea. It will get lost in translation and they will lose their shit.

Apparently something MAJOR exciting happened over the weekend because the two office staff I sit opposite will not shut up! I don't understand why they need to talk so loudly when they're sat next to each other. I even have headphones in and music on and I can STILL HEAR THEM. It's Monday morning, quiet please!
Maybe they are talking about the impeachment. That's a pretty major deal.

Nah this is definitely gossip. I think because the VP isn't here they're running wild. They haven't clicked a mouse or tapped a keyboard yet and it's almost 10am. Anything political usually gets given 5 minutes attention and then back to gossip.  >:(
Ahh, gotcha. Then yeah, with no one to keep them in check with potential pop-ins it can get pretty wild. I wonder what the office gossip is then.

As for Star Wars, I knew about the delay, but I don't understand it or appreciate it. But it makes for a fun New Years Eve plan (I know it comes out on the 28th, but that's what my bf and I are doing to ring in the year).

Yeahhhhhhhh, don't do that.

I have no heating in my classroom today.None. I cannot feel my feet or legs and I am wrapped up in a coat and scarf indoors... like a heathen. Just sitting here all wrapped up in ALL the clothes. All of them. *cries*

I made tea. It was warm for about 3 minutes. *cries again*

I bought raisins at Costco this weekend to snack on, but I forgot them at home and now I'm hungry and my stomach is rumbling.

4D is basically poison.

I have to wait until the 28th to see Rogue One!!! C'mon, that's like 2 weeks after the premiere in Slovakia and Cambodia and everywhere else in the bloody world. FFS This does not make me happy.  I was going to see it for my birthday, which was the original world release date. Now I'm sad.

This is the first I've heard of this. I just looked and you are right.
What. The. FUUCK. I had assumed it was this Thursday/Friday like the rest of the developed world... I had planned out my whole day Friday around this  i didn't even check, becuase why would I?

Force Awakens came out the same time here as everywhere else. Why the hell are they pushing this one back two weeks?! Why are they doing this to me?

I know!!!  Every other big american movie comes to Korea very close to the release date in the states.   This is ridiculous! I also had planned my weekend around this.  I need to write a strongly worded letter to someone.  After I cry
And another thing just occured to me. How is anyone here going to be able to avoid spoilers for 2 weeks? I saw Force Awakens the day it came out and I still couldn't avoid the main spoiler for that. Korea, you've screwed me yet again.

CoT is gone most of the class to set up for one of the online classes. This is great cause less interference. She returns 10 minutes before class ends, looks at the snowman project I've given the students (color, cut out and glue together, depending on time), and asks if I don't have any other materials because there's only 10 minutes left. I tell her "this is the material." She seems vaguely displeased but then leaves to continue setting up for the online class.

I mean come on.. if they don't finish this class period they can continue with it the next. Did this exact same project last year and she was all in love with it (and it took the tail end of one class period and the beginning of another) so I don't see what her deal is this time other than being a control freak?

I thought I was going to have an easy week due to testing on Thursday, which is my busiest day...

But no.

"Since we can't have classes on Thursday, you can teach my other classes with me this week!"

So now I've got three days this week with six back-to-back classes.

4D is basically poison.

The first film I saw in 4D was Mad Max and it really heightened the experience. Any movie I've seen in 4D since -- The newest of the X-Men movies, Dr. Strange -- have left me feeling annoyed and slightly nauseated.  I find myself straightening my back off the seat and riding it somewhat like a bucking bronco, trying to maintain some center of gravity. Of course Mad Max was a good movie in its own right. X-Men and Dr. Strange, not so much...

Yeah, I think it is time to get out of this teaching thing. Right now I have kids climbing all over me, grabbing me and my hair and it is 20 minutes before class and I want to scream at them to shut the f*%k up and get the hell out. I just don't think I can deal with this anymore. I don't quite think I have felt like this before, not this level annoyance at a bunch of 1st graders (elementary).

yeah this is ridiculous. most major western movies actually release here 1 or 2 days BEFORE the international premieres.

but then you get some that will come out here like 1 or 2 months after it's been released internationally.

it probably has something to do with the korean movie release schedule. i think korean movies get 1st priority and there are probably some big korean movies coming out in the next few weeks. that would be my guess anyway. recently Hollywood movies have been absolutely crushing korean movies here at the box office so they are probably scared to release Rogue One at the same time lest it crush these poor korean films.

Usually the ones that are super delayed are the animated ones so that they have time to dub them for the kids, rather than just sub. Frozen and now Moana both took a few months. It's a little confusing why this one is delayed since we always get the big ones early, but your theory about Korean movies vs Rogue One makes sense.

I feel for you. Every Thursday I wake up with a feeling of dread: 1st grade, 7th period. There's 5 in the clas but I only ever up with 4 of them. 40 minutes of hell. My coteacher walked in last week just as I was yelling "Yaaaaa!!!" at them. And guess what, just to make it worse, this year's winter camp they decided it would be good to include 1st and 2nd grade. I mean whhhhyyyyy??? Thank god I managed to negotiate 2 periods only with them. But oh god, 2 periods 3 days back to back...

CoT keeps trying to sell me on teaching those online classes. She seems to have realized I am not interested (kept pausing after talking up the program as if waiting for me to respond with YES) and finally directly asked me why. Can't very well tell her I don't like teaching elementary sooo... just said I don't like online classes. Which isn't entirely untrue anyway.

And honestly I'd rather just have some more time to do other things, even if it's just refining lessons and making more materials or even deskwarming.

This is just a bit of referrential humour. My favourite kind.

I have never actually seen that kind of movie. The price and my queasiness put me off.

I understand why Korean people are so sensitive about Japan, but what I don't understand is when they try to claim something small and insignificant doesn't come from Japan. Teaching the Konglish class when we got to "arbeit" meaning part-time job and I mentioned that this is the word that Japan uses, which is why it came to Korea and they all vehemently deny that suck a thing could happen ...  :blank:

It is because it doesn't, and you are wrong.

It is German.

It has nothing to do with Japan.

Why do you think that it does?

Kids can't have knives for the cooking class in winter camp, but they can have box cutters in their pencil cases.
