Does anyone know what made pretending you're a japanese porn star go viral for young kids? I'd heard my middle school students going on and on 기모티~~ 야메테~~~ one day and now 기모티 is everywhere as a slang term meaning nice/feels good/I'm generally pleased with something right now

I assume it must have been some kind of viral video or something???? But it's disturbing

We had japchae at lunch today and one of my noodles was suspiciously thicker than all the others and I couldn't bring myself to eat it.

It's a cobra penis.

This is the guy who is responsible for the meme:

It's very annoying. It seems like my students have stopped saying it as of this week, though. I think their teachers finally caught on and started cracking down.

Been hearing it for the past 2 years now. Usually they'll say it around me. Maybe because I'm a foreigner or to make fun of me? No idea.

Stamina!!!

I had a shot of tiger penis whiskey in the Golden Triangle (Burma, I think?). I actually wasn't too keen on trying it but the guide insisted I have a "cocktail" and poured some in my shot of gecko. Tasted about the same as the scorpion and turtle shots.

That's exactly what it means, though. It's not an inherently sexual term.

e: I'm not trying to be a bitch by saying this, just letting you know that you don't need to feel disturbed!

What's up with 청정채? It's clearly some spinach/pak choi kind of thing, but can't seem to find a translation.

What's the deal with fast food in this country? I went into Lotteria at lunch and ordered a chicken burger. Just a chicken burger. There is a family in front of me that ordered half the store. I waited 20 minutes while they processed the order for that family rather than just giving me a measly chicken burger straight away. This happens all the time.

Yeah, first come, first serve is a good rule, but it's not law. Ordering 9 combos will take longer than 1 combo OBV.

I think they figure if they don't take care of the big order fast, it won't all come out in time for everyone to eat warm food. Also a big group of people is loud and annoying and they want to get  them in and out of the store asap, versus one quiet foreigner.

Because of the new door locks on all the teachers' housing, the mornings now kick off with a series of chirruping beeps.

Those make sneaking into the house late at night nearly impossible.

Nowhere to be late at night on this island  hahah.
I live right behind my main school and can hear when people come and go from the building. Sometimes later at night I hear the sounds of glass bottles being thrown into the rubbish.

Wait so - all the teachers live together on islands? Are there no like... places to rent?

Depends on the island. I've heard of some islands having dormitory type housing. Thankfully my island (and my travel island) has a different set up. All the housing is behind the school, which is why I can hear people going to and fro.

Most of the housing is like little houses or asymmetrical duplexes and there's one building that's apartment style (but only 2 floors). Some of the houses are studio style (but fairly roomy. Far from a closet) while others have separate rooms. Mine is a two bedroom, not including the kitchen/dining and bathroom.

And nope! There is no place to rent. Our town is way too small! We don't even have a motel. It's seriously very countryside out here!

I know that's what it means, I studied Japanese for over 5 years. The way they were saying it though (especially coupled with 야메테) it was clear that was the reference. If the way it entered the Korean slang vocabulary was through something dirty, I'm gonna feel disturbed, especially when really young kids are saying it.

As a side note, the Korean usage does seem to be different than the Japanese usage. It seems to be more like "aww yiss" than "this feels nice"

Moonbrie, are there textbooks you would recommend for studying Japanese? Just curious.

It's raining so much today that streets in my neighborhood are flooding. I just walked through 6 inches of water to go to the store.
