Three Headed Broadway Singer (NEED HELP)
« on: April 10, 2009, 12:11:30 pm »
I'm interested in trying some improv with my classes. I am a huge fan of Whose Line Is It Anyways and wanted to maybe use the Three Headed Broadway Singer part of the show as a lesson. I would have students in groups of four and have the class choose a topic for them to sing. The song would be sung one word at a time by each student. Each song would be about a minute. I'd prefer each student to sing at least 4-5 times.

I was plannong on using this lesson once exams are done (fried brains).

I'm trying to plan it out but I would appreciate whatever feedback I can get.

This seems like a good idea...  Did you use it?
I was looking at it for my teachers class, just to have some fun after the lesson.  But this requires that the students not only speak English but think in English, too.  And think ahead, as well.  They may be able to say the words, but not understand how to make it funny or why it's funny.  Humor doesn't always translate...  My high school students wouldn't be able to do it.
Anyone have any ideas for using this in upper level HS/adult classes and making it work?

This would probably work with only the highest level students. They simply can't think in English fast enough to make it entertaining.

An alternative might be to use some sort of prop and have them think of an alternative use for the item and then model the use. For example, you could use a soccer ball. Student A says, 'Pillow' and then pretends to sleep. Student B then says, 'Chair' and sits on the ball. Student C says, 'Baby' and then puts it under his shirt....
