I just made this banana bomb game from Mokpo Brad's game for Lesson 9. I hope all the pictures are obvious enough because I didn't put the answers on the slides.

Here's a speed quiz I made. Students should be grouped, with 1 student facing the screen and the rest with their backs to it. The student facing the screen must act out the picture, I can do this or can't do that, while the rest of the group tries to guess. The group with that identifies the most correctly wins.

so i used these PPTs for an after school class, but they both deal with the "I Can/Can't..." lesson. the CanCan't PPT has a link to "Can you clap" song by Peter Weatherall. the next 3 slides have pictures for 'jump', 'hop', and 'swim'. each slide has the question "Can you..." that relates to the picture. an en-Xed pic is "Yes, I can." then click and a red X comes up, followed by another click for "No, I can't". after those 3 slides is a Guess the Animal Game. boxes hiding an animal disappear while hints like "I can..."/"I can't.." appear. my kids enjoyed it so i hope it helps.

PPT CanCant2 starts with a "What can I do?" game. it's pretty much like the Guess the Animal Game, except using the 'jump, 'hop', 'swim' pictures, as well as 'play soccer', and 'run'. after that is a filler slide for them to play bingo. i had them write the words for the actions down, but there is also a slide that has the pictures with the words to help them out. this might be difficult for 3rd graders though. i did this for a mixed afterschool class of 4th and 3rd (mostly 4th) and it took a while for them to write. anyways, these are simple and short PPTs that can be used as fillers :)

AWESOME game!  I added a few slides that the students can try.  Check it out.

My first contribution to Waygook. Its not flashy and doesn't sing or dance. An old school (no ppt) game to get the kids to wake up.

I find that the best and easiest game to play with this lesson is "Simon Says." I used this lesson for 1st and 2nd graders and they loved the game. In fact they want to play every day as a warm up when I get to class.

Here's a simple survey activity that students can use to practice asking questions.

3rd Grade Lesson 10 I Can Swim
« Reply #32 on: September 29, 2010, 02:48:47 pm »
Hey guys,

Here's the powerpoint that I made for part 2 of Lesson 10 "I Can Swim".  This is a lead in to a CHARADES game that my students had a lot of fun playing.

Here are the instructions:

Introduce the 10 animals on the PPT.  Talk about what each can/can’t do as a class.

Number off the students (#1,#2,#3,#4) in their groups.  Have everyone turn their chairs and face the back of the class.  Explain that one person at a time will come up, stand infront of their group and face the front (therefore the screen).  I will show the image of one of the animals we discussed.  That student has "become" the animal- however they do not demonstrate anything through actions.

The other members of the group must try to figure out what animal that student is by saying: “Can you _______” (swim, jump, fly, sing, run, walk).

If the animal can do such a thing, the student standing up must say: “Yes I can.”  If the animal can’t do the action, the student must say “No, I can’t.”

Once the group members have guessed what animal it is, they must yell: “It’s a _______” (Lesson #3).  The next student then stands and the whole thing is repeated again.

Enjoy.  xo ;D

The Mario game looks awesome! How did it work with 3rd grade? I didn't teach 3rd grade last semester so this is my first time and I worry about their attention span.
