Here's another PPT that focuses on both present and past tense.  Also, there are many irregular past tense verb examples.

Grade 6, Lesson 9-- How Was Your Vacation?
« Reply #24 on: September 06, 2010, 04:08:17 pm »
This is a worksheet that I made for period 4 for review. The students work in pairs. First they do rock, paper, scissors. The losing students asks, "How was your vacation?" The winner gets to pick "It was great," "It was good," or "It was not fun." Then the losing student asks, "What did you do?" The winning student chooses an activity, "I went to the park." He/She then receives the points for that square(i.e. It was good & I went to the park). Repeat the process again beginning with rock, paper, scissors. The student with the most points at the end of the game is the winner.

Here is a laser, heart game posted by another user. I modified it to cover the material for this lesson. I let each team start off with 3 hearts on the score board.

I'm using the bomb game with my class as one of the activities. As a warm-up, we're going to listen to Pink's "Who Knew" karaoke version (it has the original song as well as the words posted throughout the song). I'm going to ask my students to count how many *past-tense* verbs they hear, and also write down as many as they can. Once this is done, I'm turning on the ppt and having a sort of guessing game. Another activity which actually came from the textbook is for students to make their own newspapers...I've attached the files I'll be using. The instructions for the newspaper activity are on the ppt.

my co-teach and i are planning to sing "Summer nights" from Grease with our 6th graders.

The song with lyrics:

also, i've uploaded the lyrics (with blanks for past tense) and some recommended vocab, tho my co-teach is still working out the korean translations. we don't have a lot of time for the lesson, but i think if you have more time (maybe a whole period) you could have them figure the vocab out on their own using english only.

Hi  :) Thought I'd give something back since I have just joined but taken somethings already  :)

First of all Thanks to everyone who made all the materials!

And secondly, here is a Baam game that I just made for this lesson.  I hope you find it useful, the kids I did it for in the classes last week thought it was fun.

A fun video "Donald's Vacation to introduce the lesson.

You can follow up with the following questions:

Where did Donald Duck go for vacation?
What did he do?
Did he have a good or bad time? Why?

Hey, for a warmer I showed the students some photos of things I did during the vacation, they had to memorize it and see how many they can write down in pairs. Then we did sentence structure and rules on regular verbs. For a game, I gave them a verb, they had to work in teams and write the past tense on a white board.
For the 2nd letter we did irregular verb rules and played a running dictation game.

Here's a Battleships/Treasure Island activity I made for this lesson.  (Changed the name from Battleships to Treasure Island after the Cheonan sinking!)  Sorry the treasure is on a seperate page, I'm a computer dullard and couldn't figure out how to put it next to the grids.

Actually, we use this activity with a lot of lessons, the kids love it (and once you've spent 10 minutes explaining it the 1st time they get it easily the next time) and spend the whole game repeating the target language over and over again!!!

Hope it's understandable!

I recently made this for my advanced class, but since it deals with the past tense, it's also usable here, but it is a little bit harder than most material.

The idea is that the students roll 2 dice, with one of them being the first number in the slide called "1st choice" and the second being used in a subsequent "2nd choice" slide. The first number effectively chooses a verb, and the second one chooses a noun amongst a set (though I did change up a few options in those sets, to allow for a few more humorous examples). Then the team makes a sentence about the person who rolled the dice of the form "Yesterday, Peter kicked a monkey." Much like madlibs, this can allow for some rather amusing examples. There are points associated with each verb, and points associated with each noun, so there is a luck game with it too. In general, it's a pretty good attention grabbing game.

Here are a couple ppt's I made to cover the past tense - the first covers regular and irregular past-tense conjugations and the second ppt (not as good as the first IMO) is useful for helping students first identify verbs, and then determine if they're past or present tense.
