I'm doing a country & city life themed day for camp, but a lot of the materials I'm finding online are not applicable here because in Korea, even the countryside has high-rise apartment buildings and big marts

They planned a summer camp once, in my hometown
Everybody was in it, from miles around
Out at the playground, some kind of waygook thing
Well I ain't no movie star
But I can get behind anything
Yeah I can get behind anything

Sometimes the faster it gets
The less you need to know
But you gotta remember
The smarter it gets
The further its gonna go
When you plan a camp
When you plan a camp

to the tune of Blow at High Dough

Was googling how to make a milkshake, and one of the suggestions was "how to make a milkshake without milk." ...What?

For people who are lactose intolerant? The soy and almond milks tend to change the flavour of the shake so maybe people were looking for ways to keep the same taste and texture without using milk.

I suppose. Seems like a milkshake would be a general no-no if you're lactose intolerant, with the ice cream and milk component.

There's always Rice Dream for the ice cream portion of it. Or homemade sorbet, I guess? Would that work for like a fruity (non-milk)shake? Or would you just end up with more of a smoothie in that case?

Sorbet to me feels more smoothie like. But then that makes me wonder what really constitutes a milkshake.

Yeah, I don't think a true sorbet could work for any kind of shake. xD Sherbets would work, but you'd need to use a non-dairy one, and I'm not sure I'd be able to handle that, personally. I can't even tolerate Rice Dream.

So glad this isn't a problem for me.

Splurging on dinner tonight.  Gonna get some 깐풍기 and noodles.  Maybe I'll get the shrimp kind, haven't decided on the protein yet.

Russian dude, with family, sharing a shuttle bus with my family from hotel to restaurant in Phuket: we're from Moscow; you are from New Zealand?

Me: No. Canada, originally, but we live in Seoul now.

Russian: Weird question for you... Why?

Me:  I ask myself that all the time.

The New Zealand question is the weirder of the two to me.

Apparently people justify throwing trash out in front of construction sites by arguing that the construction is reducing their quality of life by means of excessive noise and kicking up dust. This is how it was explained to me by my landlord anyway.  And it's true, construction sites are supposed to compensate anyone within a certain number of meters a certain amount of money if the noise level is above a certain decibel point over a certain amount of time, which may explain why the construction companies put up with the trash dumping. I have a friend who once successfully pursued this remuneration with legal action.

This was not my own justification for ridding myself of my microwave however. I did it because everyone else was doing it.

(The microwave was an old 'Goldstar' from the year I was born, and it still works. I tried calling LG to attest to them of the incredible lifespan of their product, but the English service team never got back to me.)

Walked past "JEIL" Hagwon the other day.

It was a math hog-won, but it would be a fitting name for most English ones too!

This one's best left transliterated, Guffie~

Speaking of insecticide, There's been a recall of sorts of all eggs after fipronil was found in some. Returned mine yesterday. You may want to do the same.

Yeah, no eggs to be found in Emart and such.

I just bought some fresh eggs from a local farmer.

Opening a package of food around my co-wokers gets the same reaction as if you do it around dogs...suddently swarmed by greedy paws :/

Opening a package of food around my co-'wokers'

Bad idea in Korea. Food, like wives, is communal here. Life hack #15: Sneak any food you don't want to share to the bathroom stall. Lock the doors, turn off all the lights and lift your footwear off the ground. Douse any crisp snack with water from the faucet to avoid making detectable mastication sounds. Only do this after-hours, first walking down all the hallways to ensure you are the last remaining person on the grounds. Smoke a cigarette afterward to cover the smell.
