Cheers,

Looks like I'm the FNG. Will be teaching somewhere in Jeollanam-do starting Sept 1st through an EPIK placement. Originally from Ohio but spent nearly 2 years in Shanghai teaching at a university there.

Looking forward to Korea, plan on taking up hiking seriously.

Welcome Dave,

Do you know where in Jeollanam-do?

I am personally considering going back.  I am finding the drudgery of the work here a bit much.  I am looking more into doing it in 2010 however.  I was in a little town called "Yeong-gwang".  It was nice, but I think I would have liked the experience of being in Seoul or a bigger city.

Rumor has it I'll learn the exact placement sometime during EPIK orientation at the end of August.

I can sympathize with the drudgery. There is an element of adventure that fills every day when living in a foreign country. Getting a haircut in the states is just one more thing on the to-do list. Getting a haircut in China was short story material.

Hi and welcome!  I'm a displaced Pittsburgher myself, so we're practically neighbors.

Jeollanam-do is nice, and I'm glad to see there's a much, much bigger online community here than there was when this site was starting out.  If you're not already, I'd recommend getting on Facebook, because there are tons of Jeonnam-related groups there.  Seems to be the best way to stay in touch and stay on top of things.

Thanks for the input Brian. When I started researching Korea about a year ago your blog was one of the first I found. Been a regular reader since.

Cheers,
