Hm, I wonder if I can use this with my high school students, or if it's hitting a bit too close to home.

Caning should be banned.  Physically abusive teachers should be re-trained, reassigned, disciplined or arrested.  I think caning is part of a viscious cycle.  Schools would be better off punishing those students non-violently by kicking them out of school, or by sending them home for a certain period of time, but they won't because "each student has a right to an education."  Do such students have the right to disrupt a class where other students are trying to learn?  I think not.  Do teachers have the right to cane their students?  Definitely not.
