English language church services
« on: July 25, 2008, 11:59:35 am »
In Gwangju there are three churches that provide English language services.  They are:
Wolgwang
http://www.wolgwangenglish.org/introduction.php The service is at 11:40am in the Mission Center, 4th floor.  You can call Pastor Jeremy Lim at 010-5025-6694 or email him at j.lim@web.de.  The website includes the church's address and tells you exactly how to get there by bus.  It includes a map you can give to the taxi driver.  The church is near the World Cup Stadium.  Take bus 16, 20, 47, 50, 74 or 77 and get off at the Yumju 4 way.  Walk up the hill past Hwajeong Nam Elementary school.
DongMyung
The service is at 11:30am in the Education Bldg.  Call Pastor Dan Hornbostel at 010-5188-8940.  Take bus 15, 27, 28, 55, 74, 80, 1000 or 1187 and get off at Nongjang Dari or the Court Office Entrance.
Joongang Presbyterian Church
http://joongang.or.kr/englishworship/
The service is at 11:30am.  Call Pastor Duncan Nortman at 010-9905-4558.  Take bus 19, 26, 39, 59, 61, 74 and get of at Hwajeong crossroads.
You can also take the subway and get off at exit #2, Hwajeong station.
And if you live in beautiful downtown Yeonggwang, you can attend the English service at Yeongseo Church at 12:30pm on Sundays.  Call 010-3185-3515 and they'll pick you up!

The one I go to is in KangNam (YeokSam-Dong) and it's an "inter-denominational, inter-cultural church serving the English-speaking communities in Korea for the purpose of world missions." (taken from their website:  http://myjubileechurch.com

The church runs entirely in English ~ there are two services (morning and afternoon) every Sunday and I believe there are some on weekdays too.

English-language Lutheran church

Every time I'm in Seoul, I go to the International Lutheran Church that's just one neighborhood over from Itaewan.

There's great directions on their site for how to get there. It's completely run in English, the members are very welcoming without being overbearing, and the pastor gives fantastic sermons! It's about as close to home as I've found in Korea. For those unfamiliar with the Lutheran church, it's classified as a "high church" and those from traditional Anglican/Episcopalian and Catholic backgrounds would feel right at home in the worship service, and probably those from other denominations, as well.
