Embedding videos?
« on: January 07, 2008, 02:55:34 am »
Any special way to embed videos?  I tried to do one from Youtube, but it didn't work.

Also, will videos from other sites work?

Alright, I removed the other stuff here since it was just adding more confusion.  I also installed a mod to allow easy video postings, here's a little info about it:

Automatically convert links into embedded clips for 47 various video clip sites including Youtube/MetaCafe/Stage6 without bbcode.

Features
  • Supports 47 Video clip sites:
123video.nl, Aniboom, AOL Uncut, AtomFilms, AtomFilms Uploads, Biku, BrightCove, CellFish, ClipFish.de, CollegeHumor, Dave.tv, dv.ouou, ESPN, Gametrailers, GameVideos, Glumbert, Godtube, Google Video, Guba, IFilm, Koreus, Libero.it, LiveLeak, LiveVideo, Megavideo, MetaCafe, MSN Live/Soapbox Video, Mofile, MySpaceTv, MyVideo.de, OnSmash, Revver, Sevenload, Stage6, Streetfire.net, Tudou, Veoh, videotube.de, Vidiac, VidMax, Vimeo, VSocial, Yahoo (Except HK), Yahoo HK Only, Youku, YouTube, YouTube Playlist
  • Properly validates/sanitizes/parses the video id before including it in the url
  • Hard-coded limit to number to converted links per page (to prevent flash overload)
  • Disabled for Printer Friendly pages
  • Disabled for Signatures

Basically, just type the URL, or address of the website you see at the top of your page when you visit the video you want to post.

Nice, thanks for doing that!

Just curious, why weren't my video posts working before?  I was going crazy trying to figure it out.

It wouldn't allow anyone but the administrator to use specifically the "html" tag, as a security feature.  Instead of just enabling that for everyone, this limits the possibility of a security hole... I guess the worst that could happen would be a spammer posting something naughty.  However, I think we're quick on removing spam :)

Is this working?  I tried to embed a youtube movie today but it came up as a hyperlink.  The test in this post (and others) comes up as a hyperlinks as well but I can seen the embedded goodness in other threads.  What do I need to do?

Thanks!

Wow, I can't believe I didn't notice this yet.  I'll fix it, must have been something I missed out on during the upgrades.  Thanks for letting me know.  :)

I don't know if this is how it's supposed to work, but even the video URL in the [url] tags are being automatically converted.  I know I'm probably the only one that actually uses the url tag like this but [ url = http://ww.youtube.com/blahblah ]click here[ url ] is being embedded as a video and not as the link click here.  Is there a switch to ignore [ url=... ]?

I understand but I'm asking if we want to automatically embed every video on a post instead of leaving it as a more manageable list of links.  Take this post for example.  It's craptastically you-tubified.

Easy enough, sorry for the misunderstanding.

Just type the words "noembed" inside square brackets like so: [HERE]    and    [/HERE ]   then put your links between those two boxes so that it doesn't get processed.

Here is an example:

[n o e m b e d]   http://www.youtube.com/blahblahblah/somelink/  [/ n o e m b e d]

or for a larger list:

[n o e m b e d]
http://www.youtube.com/blahblahblah/somelink/
http://www.youtube.com/someotherlink/
http://www.youtube.com/meh/
http://www.youtube.com/meow/killercat
[/ n o e m b e d]

The reason the url tags don't work for video sites is due to the addon automatically processing ALL video site links to videos as embed videos.  You can use the URL tags to put a title on the links.  Here is an example of the "url tag" inside the "noembed" tag:
[n o e m b e d][noembed] Crazy cat eats nachos [/noembed][/ n o e m b e d]

** NOTE: When you make your post with the "noembed", no one will see the tags as you do in my post.  I just placed my awkwardly so that it stays visible for instructional purposes.
