High School - 07 - Prepositions
« on: July 25, 2007, 04:06:12 pm »
Again I stole this from AlexMokpo's Preposition lesson and, to be honest, his sounds more exciting.

Prepositions:
  • Native Speaker introduces the concept of preposition and introduces the core prepositions. 5 minutes.
  • Students define the prepositions for the native speaker Native Speaker. 5 minutes.
  • Students perform Match-up Preposition worksheet.  5 minutes.
  • Native Speaker goes over Match-up Preposition worksheet with class. 5 minutes.
  • Students perform Hidden Object preposition worksheet. 15 minutes.
  • Native Speaker goes over Hidden Object worksheet with class. 15 minutes.

Notes:
  • Even though the kids whizzed through the match-up activity they did take longer than expected on the hidden object activity.
  • If the concept of preposition is already known by all the students the shift the focus on the Hidden Object activity and the correct sentences that they should be writing.

More information about my lessons can be found here.

Prepositions (high school grade 1 / middle school grade 3)
« Reply #1 on: July 26, 2010, 02:42:20 pm »
This is a fairly simple prepositions lesson I did with my high school grade 1s that went well.

In the first class I ran through prepositions of place, time and direction using the PPT, 'directions sheet' and flashcards.

In the second class they completed the 'telephone conversations' using the 'directions sheet' and flashcards, eventually speaking and asking directions without using the conversation cards.

This is a simple prepositions of place lesson that I put together thanks to bogglesworld.

Quick presentation on vocab, handout a work sheet, talk about the answers and then play the games included in the ppt.

Game 1:
In groups of 6

Person A chooses a picture
Do not show the picture to your group
Person A describes the picture to the group
The group will try to draw the picture
Compare the original picture to the drawn pictures
Take turns speaking and drawing.

Game 2
One person (A) from each table will close their eyes

The group will hide a die somewhere in the classroom
Don’t make it too difficult
After the die is hidden, A can open their eyes
Without moving (stay sitting) A must ask questions to group in order to figure out where the die is hidden
Ex.
Is it in a pencil case?
Is it behind the computers?
Is it under a chair?
Is it on a table?

prepositions with Park Ji Sung
« Reply #3 on: April 22, 2011, 03:18:47 pm »
Here is a powerpoint and plan using park ji sung to assist with teaching prepositions.
This should be well above high school level, but my students are very low ability.
Includes plan and simple handout.

This is great. Thank you! I am always looking for more lessons for my students. I teach at an all girls vocational high school and their English levels are horrible. It is always a challenge making new lessons to hold their attentions.

Thanks a ton! I am always looking for more ideas to teach prepositions. And since I stayed at the same school I was at last year (and I taught prepositions 2x in my after school classes) I am pretty well out of new ways to teach it. This is a great idea. And I like the review of ordinal numbers at the end! I may change Ban Gi Moon to Pororo though... as my students are much younger (elementary).

Thanks a million!

I re-vamped this slightly, but my students loved it. I changed it to a mixture of GD and TOP. My dull classes turned into laughing groups of girls. I used the hand gestures for the prepositions also. They were laughing so hard. Thank you for posting.

Nice lesson but I sure hope you don't (or don't have to) waste time writing out such detailed lesson plans for every lesson you teach.

Prepositions and School Supplies

This was the best lesson I made. I used flashcards from Barryfunenglish.com (which you have to join for an affordable $2 per month), but you could use other words and flashcards if needed.
