this was a great culture/discussion lesson with my high school girl classes. i've always wanted to touch on this subject, since outward appearances is very much emphasized in korea. thank you again for a great lesson!

This is wonderful, thanks! I work in a girl's high school so this is particularly useful.

Sticking to the themes of my textbook and this week it is 'Teens talking to teens' which is basically talking about teen troubles and helplines which you can go to for advice. Seen as beauty is a big issue in Korea, I'm going to incoprate this lesson over the next two weeks. Thank you!

I've used this lesson twice and LOVED it! I made another worksheet. The questions are the same the format is just different.

I teach at an all girls middle school and was planning to do a Beauty lesson with them. It is much needed here and I think they will really benefit from it. Thank you so much!

Hey OP,

I just made a lesson for my advanced middle school students that has a few similarities with yours (though I just saw your lesson now). I even started my lesson with the Dove commercial and the title, "What is Beauty?"

Feel free to incorporate parts from mine into yours.

Cheers

I changed it to suit my students and other objectives.

1. students to understand how their relationship with beauty and how they feel about themselves are impacted by advertisements, the media, and society.
2.  precursor to a one month advertising project my students will do after mid-terms.
3.  This lesson served as a way for them to experience the power of advertising and the media in society - it can be good and bad...something I want my students to think about so they can make certain choices for their advertising project.
4.  Increase the speaking time.
5.  Uplevel the speaking quality for my students.
6.  Challenge students to speak more deeply and conceptually.

Lesson is structured as:
Engage - 1st
Activity 2nd - my students spent 35 minutes speaking
Study 3rd - 10 minutes total for slides and videos.

Hey thanks for this! I'm a relatively young male teacher at an all girls high school, so I think presenting this lesson to my students would be particularly impactful. Love the video too.

I am working on a month long series of lessons about "expressing yourself."

The three weeks are:
1. I think, I feel, I am - telling our opinions about things and ourselves
2. "Why?" "Because..." - Describing your thoughts (focus: adjectives)
3. Simile and Metaphor - using pictures to describe a thought.

I think this lesson on beauty would be a wonderful close to "Express yourself," and a great opening to a lesson on advertising, media expression, etc.

Thanks for the idea
