Thank you guys for your feedback. So today we went to make photocopies of our passports and ARC to give to our principle and she literally said the photocopies were not an option and required us to give her our passports/arc since she saw that we had them, she actually took them from us. she kept on saying, we must have the originals. We said, fine then we will just go with you. Apparently that wasnt and option either. Whats the worst that could happen with her holding out passports and ARC? She we make a huge deal and demand them back?? this place is ridiculous .
So you're saying that you let someone overpower you and take your passports out of sight and not letting you go with them?
(MC tries to control his inner rage from the complete lack fo spinelessness of the noobs who should and don't know better).
YOU ARE LEGALLY REQUIRED TO HAVE YOUR PASSPORT OR ARC ON YOU AT ALL TIMES.
Secondly, it's a big deal if you give your passport to someone who is not a gov't official. I'd say this because some people actually sell their passports, then report them later as being stolen (of course everyone here woudl say they would never do such a thing) Your passport is your lifeline in this country. And you just gave it away.
My advice is to simply let your 'boss' know that you are *extremely* upset that he has refused you access to your documents and you will NOT teach any classes until your documents are returned to you. You will not accept promises or threats. YOU HAVE TO BE ABSOLUTEY COMMITTED TO BACKING THIS UP OR YOU WON'T GET THEM BACK! If you back down and teach, noone here with any common sense will help anyone who can't help or stand up for themselves. You absolutely need your passports returned immediately. IF your boss does not return your passports within 24hrs, you HAVE to file police report stating that your passports were taken away by your employer by your boss. You then have to go to your embassy to get new passports and register them with immigration so you can leave the country. This is your LEGAL obligation to your embassy. I cannot believe that you would permit that.
NEVER LET YOUR EMPLOYER KEEP YOUR PASSPORT!!!!
If you can't grow a spine strong enough to follow my advice, I'll look forward to the future postings of how you got shafted, lost wages and had to endure horrible treatment because your boss is holding your passports hostage and you need to get home (read the stories, there are plenty here like that).
After that, go home and pack your bags and fly home.....find a proper job.
