Supply and Demand- 3rd Year Middle School
« on: September 01, 2010, 06:13:38 pm »
Ok, my book had a lesson on Supply and Demand and here is a lesson on it. You may want to add more questions, because some of my classes where faster or caught on quicker so I had some time left over and played a listening bingo game.  The dialogue in the slides is from the dialogue in my book. You may want to change it to the dialogue from your book, if you have a supply and demand chapter.

Remember to check the slides and the worksheet.

The slides look good, however, some of the economic theories you posted on your presentation are incorrect.  Just an FYI.

I was a business major and an MBA with a concentration in Finance so I still have all those supply and demand principles etched in my head.

Some of the kids might notice it too, maybe not.  They teach supply and demand first semester- 3rd year of middle school in Korea.

An increase in price will NOT cause a decrease in demand.  An increase in price will cause a decrease in quantity demanded on the SAME demand curve.

A decrease in demand- meaning the whole demand curve shifts to the left will cause a decrease in prices.

What I wanted my kids to understand is that sometimes price can effect how much people buy. I took about 1 or 2 parts and elaborated on it. According to my book and I quote "A decrease in price causes and increase in demand (people buy more shoes or whatever). and a decrease in supply (producers makes fewer shoes). and another part " an increase in price of goods causes a decrease in demand. That's what the books says, this is not an economics class. There is nothing about shifting left or any thing about quantity demand. It's just a simple concept that they can understand.

You can change, use or leave it.

I agree with your point.  My coteacher and I discussed this this morning.  The book is wrong, however, we're trying to teach them English and not the fine points of economics.  I'll just overlook the errors in the book.

Glad it went well. No, well I am not sure I don't see that name, but my 3rd year's book has a picture of a high school or college with like a clock tower and my 1st and 2nd I think are made by the same people. They have a bunch of cartoon people doing different things.

Hmmm.. . I have pics like that too . I'm on Lesson 7 for all levels.... with topics like, learning styles, body language and Alex's Lemonade stand. Anyway.... Like I said before... thanks again. Are your co-teachers the ones who translated the Korean for you? My students were also impressed with that... hehehe...

Actually I used google translate, and ran it by my co-teacher to see if they were correct. She did translate what is supply and what is demand bc my other co-teacher barely explains anything and she teaches the boys so I need them to understand and pay attention to what is going on. I use to not use Korean, but I think this concept  needs to be translated for them to understand. Well good luck the rest of the year.
