Jason,

Firstly, your photos are amazing! I am really impressed with your style... it's not easy to be a traveler and a photographer. You really have to pick times to enjoy the experiences and live your traveling life, and you have to select the times to jump into photographer mode (otherwise we'd be running around looking for our cameras all the time, never catching the moments we want to). Anyway, as a photographer, I have to say this is really great. And your blog is pretty sweet with all the extra tips. Thanks for sharing this!

I'm not sure what kind of camera you use but your lenses seems really great. I'm just starting to invest in some better equipment and would love your input. I have a basic DSLR (Canon Rebel xSi) and want to get a decent zoom lens for it, and perhaps a wide angle or something to experiment with. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks! And keep up the great work! Let me know if you ever want someone to shoot with.

Thank you for the great comments!
As for the lenses I use 3 lenses all the time. I think that for my style of photography these work the best. My main lens is a wide angle Tokina 12-24mm f/4. I love this lens and I think that I have almost warn it out it you can do such a thing. As lenses go this is an affordable lens that will blow your mind!
The Next lens that I use for coffee and food shots is a 50mm Prime F/1.4 the DOF on this is spectacular! It is small and intrusiveness when photographing people as well. Again this is also "affordable" as lenses go.
During my stint as a photographer for the AFC champions league soccer, I picked up a 70-200mm f/2.8 L series lens. It was quite small for soccer but otherwise a beautiful lens. It is one of those large white lenses you see around. It was extremely pricey but well worth the investment.

I have used other lenses like a 100-300mm but it just wasn't fast enough. Travelling is tough with the 70-200mm but I grin and bear it just because of the quality. If you are looking at a wide angle, definitely look into the Tokina.

Your photos are beautiful. I've been wanting to buy a wide angle lens and just was not sure which one to get, so your recommendation was greatly appreciated!

So, the next questions is....do you know anywhere in Ulsan to get one at a good price, or is the electronics market in Seoul the better place to go?
Thanks for posting this topic to begin with!  :D

In Ulsan, I usually deal with the pix-dix people. The evening manager is a great guy and speaks English very well. I purchased my tokina in Busan, in nampo-dong from ilkwang camera. If you check my post here http://jasonteale.com/blog/?p=135 I explain a few things about the shops.

The Seoul electronics market is a good place to get ripped off. Not that there is anythying bad about the place but I find it more trouble than it is actually worth. In the few times that I have shopped there, I did find some good deals until I find out that they had opened the box and were trying to charge extra for batteries and chargers.

The sites that I mentioned in the post have always given excellent service and are reputable places as well

I will be adding new galleries this week and several new posts on festivals happening this month (as there are a ton of them), working with magazines and info and tips on the programs and themes I used to make my site.

If there are any topics that you would like me to cover in the future, please let me know here or via email. I will do my best to answer them. Thanks again for all of the great comments!!

Loving the shots of Ulsan! I am currently doing a photo 365 for this year so get out into Ulsan and take a photo of something everyday! Plenty of good ideas and amazing shots you have there!

I've got some of mine on www.flickr.com/v15ben too!

You have some amazing shots!! Love the concept of the 365 thing. Would be interesting to do a gallery in Ulsan like that "365 days in the life of a foreigner"

That would definitely be a good concept. It takes a lot of commitment though trying to find something new to photograph every single day!

Nampo-dong is your best bet. I talked about a store called "Ilkwang Camera" there. I have bought most of my equipment from them over the years.

This has been a good store for me. They have a nice selection on used lenses and are pretty good about prices. I also upgraded my camera there and the process was smooth. They gave me a good amount for my slightly used camera.
