I thought that I got this lesson from here, but I can't find anything about it. Either way, I changed it quite a bit, so here is my Movies and Short Films lesson. I did it with my after-school class of Grade 2 students, but I think this could work for any grade and any number of students.
I started off the lesson by showing the kids two movie trailers. I used the trailers for Karate Kid and Eclipse, but you could change this to anything that you think your kids might enjoy. I used the Eclipse trailer because I have two girls in my class and I thought they might enjoy them. In the end, neither of the girls liked the Twilight series and all of the boys wanted to see it, so it didn't quite work out as planned. Here are the links to the trailers that I used:

Before I started, I asked the kids if they knew what trailers were and gave them a brief explanation. After each trailer I asked them three questions:
Who would go to see the movie?
Why?
What kind of movie is it?
That way I got them to tell me about all the different genres of movies, and they had fun doing it.
Next I handed out the assessment sheet and went over the different sections, making sure that they understood what everything meant. I only used the first part of the assessment sheet and didn't ask them to do the DVD cover, although that could be a fun exercise for anyone who wants to do it.
Finally, I showed them the short film Lifted. I had them watch it twice - the first time just enjoying the movie, and the second time getting them to use the assessment sheet to show what they thought about it. Then I had them discuss what they thought about the movie. They all loved it and all wanted to own it on DVD. They all really seemed to enjoy the lesson!
