drumming lessons...
« on: May 28, 2010, 01:44:39 pm »
I have been looking into getting janggo (hourglass) drumming lessons, but I don't know where to go. Are there any places in Mokpo that offer drumming lessons?

I don't know where Mokpo is but you could try this it's in Seoul.  We just had our spring class concert but they'll be having another class starting in September.  Every Saturday 10:30-12:30 30,000won for the entire class.  It's really a fun opportunity. http://www.ncktpa.go.kr/eng.htm

There are local pungmul teams that will have lessons for beginners, you might be allowed to join a university club, and larger cultural centres might have lessons too. Ask teachers at your school if they can help you find a pungmul team. It'll probably be pretty cheap, but don't expect them to speak English at all. Classes will probably be in the evenings a couple of times a week. They will have drums you can use. It's a lot of fun.

My problem is that my co-teach wants me to join the pungmul team at my school, but that's the same time as teacher volleyball, which I will not miss (it's when my principal and vice-principal play). So I don't want to ask my co-teach for fear of hurting her feelings. Does anybody know of any other pungmul teams or janggo teachers in and around the Mokpo area?
