Special needs / disabilities
« on: April 05, 2010, 12:14:56 pm »
I've created a little lesson for teaching special needs and disabilities for my middle school.  The first part would be a watching this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQPmY4nIjVE

It's about a man with no arms and legs (Korean subtitles).

The next part would be doing the matching exercise I've attached.

The third part would be having them choose a few disabilities and to write about how some everyday things could be more difficult for these people or some kind of struggle they might face.

If you have any feedback, suggestions, or anything, please let me know.  I'm certainly no expert on the subject.

Thanks.

This worked well with my English club.

The guy in the video Nick Vujicic visited Korea in February then again last week to talk at a church, and recorded a commercial with Hyundai for the World Cup, so I was thinking of reviewing the same topic for part of another lesson. I think the students will be interested in the fact he went to Korea, and they're definitely obsessed with the World Cup.

He also has a TV special coming up on Korea tv but it seems quite religion focused so it might not be suitable.

One stumbling block is the lack of Korean subtitles for the commercial, the kids are too low level to understand it. They should exists being that it is for Hyundai, but I can't find them.
