Hello Waygook.org users!

You may be wondering what a 'lifehack' is. Picture your life as a 'computer' and you as a 'hacker.' Sometimes hackers 'hack' into the 'mainframe' of a computer to somehow give themselves an advantage or otherwise alter its performance, or their ability to do things.

So, if you're a 'hacker' and your 'life' is a 'computer' then a 'lifehack' is a way of taking control of some aspect of your life to make it better or give yourself an advantage.

In this topic, I'll share various ways you can do this in your life!

Please note, this is a #based and positive topic, so refrain from any negativity! Thank you!

Please also note, this is in '"Open" Discussions' because it does not specifically apply to life in Korea, but rather can be applicable anywhere you live!

Lifehack 1.

If you wash your clothes in a washing machine, put your shirts and delicate items in a mesh laundry back. This will reduce wrinkles and subsequent ironing, and also extend the life of your clothes! A mesh laundry bag is called a 세탁망 if you live in Korea, and can be purchased at Daiso or online at Gmarket.

Lifehack 2.

If you make a sandwich, only use one piece of bread. You reduce your calories from bread by half, and double the number of sandwiches you can make.

Can I add one?

Always buy trash bags one size larger than specified for your bin.

You know it is usually overfilled when you get around to emptying it, so this gives you some room to unload whatever you want to stuff in there before you haul it out, and room to tie it off.

That IS good. When it's not full, you can comfortably pull the edges over the sides and then extend it up when it's getting plump.

Also, I suggest buying small food garbage bags, especially in the summer, to reduce the time it's sitting around and getting stinky.

Also, anyone is welcome to add lifehacks. But only my lifehacks will be officially numbered lifehacks!

I've got one:

When exiting a bus, always ding your bus card on the bus card dinging device ~~

That way you won't forget to do it when you actually need to ~~(i.e. When switching buses)

Lifehack 3.

If you need to microwave rice to make it warm, add a few drops of water and cover it before heating. This will make it more delicious.

If you use a laundry bag (I recommend you do) try to split larger loads into two or more smaller bags. Sometimes if you use one bag it can clump up so the washer freaks out when it tries to spin dry. Then you have to manually redistribute the clothing.

Of course. Laundry bags give you great laundry advantages, but you have to use them properly.

Things like underwear aren't such a problem, but I try not to put more than one or maximum two shirts in each bag.

I use a small food trash bag and keep it in the freezer to prevent it from rotting/smelling.

Do you have any financial life hacks (especially relating to Korea)? You seem pretty good at that stuff.

Yes, but for now I'm keeping it to general interest things.

And thank you! I am!

Use that mold-killing powder or liquid for your washing machine at least once a month during the summer. Lot of folks don't seem to realize those are available here and that mold growing in washing machine drums is the reason for weird-smelling clothes, even after they've been freshly washed. You can find the stuff either with the detergents or with other cleaning products, normally kept on upper shelves.

In one case, mold on clothes from the washing machine was the cause of this guy's recurring jock itch. So there ya go.

Edit: Forgot to add that you should leave your washing machine door open for air circulation. Really cuts down on how quickly mold will begin growing in there, especially after you've treated it.

I always ding it before the bus stops at my stop - as do lots of Koreans. That way you are not held up or holding other people up when exiting the bus.

I'll handle this Waygook.org user #basedcowboyshirt.

Financial Hack #1: If you do not use your TV, make sure to ask your co-teacher to have the TV access fee removed.  This will save you ~5000KRW per month.

But don't tell anybody that you did this or else you will get several forum pages' worth of waygooks telling you how darn cheap you are and how cheap people are disgusting.

Does that count as Financial Hack #2?

F'in 'ell, I remember that. What a shitshow. What a blessed life I would lead if I could not give a shit about 60 000 a year for 3 mins worth of work.

This made me chuckle. Of course only yours will be officially numbered life hacks. Lord knows I wont be paying attention to the other know-it-all peasants on waygook.

I also hereby recognise Waygook.org user #Donovan's officially numbered financial life hacks
