An Englishman named Scott told me that he reckons the first Scott in Korea must have been from the southern USA because most Koreans say his name like "Scat".

Scat is the man!

I can't even count how many different people I've had arguments with about 'a' as in 'cat,' 'hat,' 'rat' is not is not equivalent to '애'.

햇, 켓, 렛 sound closer to 'hate,' 'Kate,' 'rate' than they do anything else. But the problem is, 아 also isn't a perfect match. But it is a much closer match.

Whenever I try to explain this, though, they offer the explanation that words like 'hate' or anything with a long 'a' sound are equivalent to '에이 / 애이' in Korean.

It's... so... frustrating.

They're right about at least some of that though. 'Hate' and so on contain diphthongs within one vowel.

No, I know. But saying that the 'a' in 'cat' is pronounced the same as 애 is generally going to be misleading.

Rusty and Orangeman both stopped posting 'round about when you started. Very suspicious.

But from recent threads, I'm starting to think that it was Waygook user CHCl3.

Wish there was a catchier way to phrase that...

Which reminds me of a joke!

I suspect that it involves Waygook user Donovan, a swimming pool filled with golf balls, and a rabid badger.
